Now I kind of feel bad.”Quarterback Brock Purdy set a franchise record himself, completing 20-of-21 (283 yards) and starting 13-of-13. He remains unbeaten in regular-season starts, and has gone 211 consecutive passes without an interception. The win secured a 4-0 record for only the fifth time in franchise history. The 49ers end their three-game homestand next Sunday night when the Dallas Cowboys return to the site of th...

Europe wins back Ryder Cup in Italy; rookie Hae Ran Ryu gets first LPGA Tour win GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — Europe won back the the Ryder Cup on Sunday, just like it always does before its raucous crowd, with Rory McIlroy leading the way and Tommy Fleetwood delivering the decisive point to extend his team’s dominance over the Americans on home soil. The outcome was never seriously in doubt at Marco Simone. Europe started the final day with a five-point lead. McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Tyrrell Hatton put the Europeans on the verge of the cup, forcing the Americans to win the remaining five matches on the course.Just like everything else this week, there was little chance of that.McIlroy was still fired up over what he perceived to be bad behavior by Patrick Cantlay’s caddie on the 18th green the previous evening. He won his match to cap a 4-1 week and was Europe’s top scorer for the first time in the Ryder Cup.And then Fleetwood hit a signature shot on the signature hole, a drive to 25 feet on the reachable 16th. Rickie Fowler hit into the ...

Dolphins’ high-powered offense stalls in Miami’s latest letdown at Buffalo ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — No matter how productive their offense had been coming into Buffalo, Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins still find themselves trying to keep pace with the Bills in the AFC East.A week after enjoying one of the most productive offensive outputs in NFL history in a 70-20 win over Denver, the Dolphins were thoroughly outplayed in a 48-20 loss to Buffalo on Sunday.“It’s very humbling,” Tagovailoa said. “To be able to have the highest high, and then you lose in a manner like this.”The Dolphins (3-1) not only squandered an opportunity to open a season at 4-0 for the first time since 1995, but once again ceded the division lead to the three-time defending champion Bills. The Dolphins are 2-12 in their past 14 meetings with the Bills and lost their eighth consecutive game at Buffalo since 2017. That includes a 34-31 defeat in a wild-card playoff game in January.“I think the Buffalo Bills proved why they are the team our whole division is trying to beat,” coach Mike Mc...

Derek Carr plays through a shoulder injury, but struggles continue for the Saints’ offense

Derek Carr plays through a shoulder injury, but struggles continue for the Saints’ offense NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Saints quarterback Derek Carr was visibly upset with himself after short-hopping a long sideline throw to an open Chris Olave early in the second half against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The rest of the game was just as frustrating for Carr and the sputtering New Orleans offense.Playing through a sprained shoulder that kept him out of practice earlier in the week, Carr threw for only 127 yards and failed to produce a touchdown in a 26-9 loss.A week after blowing a 17-0 fourth quarter lead to Green Bay when Carr was forced out in the third quarter, the Saints missed an early opportunity to take sole possession of first place in the NFC South.Instead, the Bucs moved to the top of the division.“That’s no excuse for us playing the way we did today,” Carr said. “Whatever it is that I have to do, I’ll do it. I just don’t want the shoulder to be an excuse for the way that we executed.”Very little went right for New Orleans after Taysom Hill slipped on a third-down catch wit...

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett leaves loss against Texans after injuring knee

Steelers QB Kenny Pickett leaves loss against Texans after injuring knee HOUSTON (AP) — Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett sustained a knee injury in the third quarter Sunday against the Houston Texans and it’s unclear if he’ll play next week. But regardless of who is playing quarterback, the Steelers must find a way to get their offense on track if they hope to bounce back from Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Texans.“We all got to do better,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “I’m looking at us in totality, in terms of what we need to do to win.”Pickett threw for 114 yards with an interception and struggled to move the offense before leaving with the injury. The loss ends a two-game winning streak for the Steelers (2-2) and will likely increase the pressure on third-year offensive coordinator Matt Canada after another subpar offensive performance.Tomlin said Pickett is being evaluated and that he’d know more about his injury later in the week. His injury came when, trailing by 10, the Steelers went for it on fourth-and-1 from the Houston 33 wit...

Patriots pull QB Mac Jones after 2 turnovers lead directly to Cowboys touchdowns

Patriots pull QB Mac Jones after 2 turnovers lead directly to Cowboys touchdowns ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — With his facemask buried in the turf, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones didn’t see the touchdown that resulted from his fumble deep in his own territory. He might not have seen the defensive tackle pursuing him then, or the cornerback that picked him off just before halftime. Jones was pulled late in the third quarter of the Patriots’ 38-3 loss against the Cowboys on Sunday, when he had three turnovers. Two of them led directly to touchdowns for Dallas. Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch returned a fumble 11 yards early in the second quarter after Jones was tackled from behind by Dante Fowler, who had come from around the end and knocked the ball loose while bringing the quarterback down. Jones was face down under Fowler when the touchdown was scored. Then just before halftime, when Jones was trying for a long completion to Kendrick Bourne, cornerback DaRon Bland stepped in front of the receiver and returned the pick 54 yards for a t...
