Friends, coworkers hold vigil for Blue Pan employee killed in hit-and-run crash

DENVER (KDVR) — The community held a vigil on Thursday for Nick Cordova, the Blue Pan employee who was killed on his way home from work in the early morning of Saturday, Nov. 18.Coworkers say the community is grieving heavily from the loss."I saw Nick as almost a father figure. I think a lot of us did over at Blue Pan," Patrick Marro said. "As much as we'd always joke saying I was his son, he was my dad. You know, on another level, it really could've been that."Nick Cordova was killed in a hit-and-run crash while riding a scooter home from work. DENVER (KDVR) -- Aurora police are seeking three people they believe were involved with an incident reported early Monday morning outside a restaurant on East Colfax.According to police, three people were injured during the incident which was reported at about 12:15 a.m. on Monday in the 9500 block of East Colfax Avenue. One of the three suspects was identified by police as Jose Antonio Hernandez-Morataya, and police provided a previous booking photo of him.During the incident, two people were shot and a third was physically assaulted. All three were transported to a local hospital. Descriptions of the other two suspects were provided. The New Hampshire man accused in connection with the crash that killed a Waltham police officer and a National Grid worker on Wednesday previously faced serious charges in New Hampshire, court documents show. Peter Simon, 54, was arrested Wednesday after officials said he allegedly struck officer Paul Tracey and utility worker Roderick Jackson with his pickup truck near 4 p.m. on Totten Pond Road in Waltham. Tracey and Jackson later died. Officials said two other National Grid workers who had been working along Totten Pond Road were also injured. In addition to Tracey, Jackson and the two other National Grid workers, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said Simon also crashed into multiple vehicles and stole a police cruiser at knifepoint before officers took him into custody. In the U.S., at least 230 people have been ill in 38 states and 96 have been hospitalized since mid-November, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.The tainted cantaloupe was also shipped to Canada, where 129 cases have been reported, including 44 hospitalizations, health officials reported.Many of the people who fell ill reported eating pre-cut cantaloupe in clamshell packages and trays sold in stores. Consumers should not buy, eat or serve cantaloupe, if they don’t know the source, the CDC said.
