Boy, 8, killed in violent Riverside head-on collision; 4 others injured

An eight-year-old boy was killed and four other people were hospitalized after a head-on crash in Riverside early Tuesday.The collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. at Arlington and Stover avenues and involved a gray Nissan sedan and a white Honda sedan.Home security video obtained by KTLA shows the driver of the Honda apparently losing control and veering into the path of the Nissan. The violent impact scattered car parts and debris across the roadway and into yards.Four people in the Nissan, a female adult and three juveniles were rushed to a hospital with injuries ranging from critical to serious, a spokesperson for Riverside Police said. Multiple Injured in Vehicle Collision on Encanto BoulevardPHOENIX, AZ (May 16, 2023) – Wednesday night, five people sustained injuries in a vehicle crash on 43rd Avenue, police said.The incident happened on May 3rd at around 5:30 p.m. just north of McDowell Road, involving a passenger vehicle and a work truck.According to Phoenix Fire, a woman was ejected from the passenger vehicle and three girls suffered serious injuries.Consequently, they were transported to the hospital in critical condition along with a man that was treated at the scene and was later taken in for observation.At this time, the cause of the incident was not yet determined and police are still investigating the crash.Thousands of people are injured each year due to reckless driving. Vice President Kamala Harris will be visiting Silicon Valley next week, stopping in Sunnyvale on Monday to deliver remarks on the implementation of the CHIPS and Science Act.Harris’ will tout the administration’s investment in U.S. semiconductor research and development and manufacturing at Applied Materials, the company posted on social media. In December, Applied Materials announced it plans to build a next-generation research and development center in Sunnyvale.Harris, an Oakland native who served as U.S. senator from California and as the state’s attorney general, last visited the Bay Area in March for a fundraiser and a roundtable discussion with small-business owners.

A recent scientific assessment found that the Gulf of Maine haddock stock declined unexpectedly, and that meant the catch quotas for the fish were unsustainably high, federal fishing managers said.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration added the Gulf of Maine haddock stock to its overfishing list last month. Contra Costa County reports 4% increase in homelessness in 2023, says last year’s count unreliable

Contra Costa County’s homeless population ticked up just 4% over the past three years to around 2,300 people, according to new data showing homelessness did not surge during the pandemic despite widespread job losses.But the latest numbers from the county’s annual “point-in-time” count in January appear to contradict the results of its 2022 count, which found the number of unhoused residents soared 35% to more than 3,000 people. Now, officials say last year’s count is unreliable because of “significant inconsistencies” in the data.The county health department blamed a third-party contractor for the errors but declined to immediately provide more details about any problems with the dataset.
