UAlbany students speak on Israel and Palestine ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -In a letter sent to the student body, Student Affairs of UAlbany reached out with resources for those struggling due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Advice includes practicing self-care and talking to supportive people both at school and back home.In response, the UAlbany Muslim Student Association gathered community members to listen to both groups affected by the conflict. They feel that Muslim voices aren’t being heard enough. "We’ve seen the university sent a letter that acknowledges the loss of life on Israel’s side but doesn’t on the Palestinian side," described Public Relations Chair of the UAlbany Muslim Student Association, Ousmane Diallo. The Greene County district attorney's office said John Peterson, 36, was sentenced to seven to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide.Prosecutors said he was impaired by drugs and alcohol when he crossed into the wrong lane of State Route 9W in Athens and crashed into another car. The other driver, Danielle McKenna, of Cairo, died at the scene.

A coalition including gas and construction companies as well as labor unions filed a federal lawsuit on Thursday and claims the law will hurt businesses, workers, and consumers by raising costs and forcing businesses to lay off workers. They also said the ban cannot be enforced because it's pre-empted by federal law.It was included in this year's state budget and prohibits gas lines in new construction in smaller buildings by 2026 and in larger buildings by 2029 with some exceptions. Supporters of it say it will help reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - The St. Louis County Police Department is searching for a person who opened fire in a south county neighborhood, striking a local elementary school and a parked car. Police shared a neighbor’s home surveillance video in hopes of finding the culprit. It all unfolded around 1 p.m. Tuesday near Bayless Elementary School. Investigators say the armed person was wearing a black hoodie and driving a white Kia Optima. At one point, the suspect got out of the car near the intersection of Kammerer and Frankfort avenues, fired off several rounds from a handgun and then sped off. Metro East soccer rivals unite for cancer battle GRANITE CITY, Ill. - The soccer field in Granite City took on a different look Thursday. Two historic rivals stood united to support a beloved community member battling cancer. Alex Paz will need a liver transplant as he is battling a hereditary form of the disease. Paz has a business in Collinsville and was a state champion as a high school soccer player for Granite City in the 1970s.  He’s also been a fixture in both communities, known for capturing photos of community events and sharing those images with those who ask.   St. Louis youth football coach recovering after shooting, suspect charged “Alex is a humble person, and he’s always given back providing great memories for families in the community,” said Clay Smity, Collinsville High School Athletic Director. “It’s only right that we step up and help him out.” Proceeds from a 50-50 raffle and T-shirt sales will be donated to Paz to help with medical expenses. The T-shirts that were sold read "Y.N.W.A." on the back.
