Merchan has ruled that TV cameras won't be allowed in the courtroom.Trump, who was impeached twice by the U.S. House but was never convicted in the U.S. Senate, will become the first former president to face criminal charges. The nation's 45th commander-in-chief will be escorted from Trump Tower to the courthouse by the Secret Service and may have his mug shot taken.Trump lawyer Joe Tacopina said Tuesday that the former president wouldn't plead guilty to lesser charg...

Bad timing! German finance minister gets caught hiding his watch on TV BERLIN — German Finance Minister Christian Lindner was spotted putting on his luxury wristwatch at the end of a TV talk show appearance, leading to accusations from political rivals that he was trying to disguise his wealth. Lindner, who leads the business-friendly Free Democrats, appeared on German public broadcaster ZDF’s talk show “maybrit illner” last week. When the credits started rolling at the end of the show, the Porsche-driving finance minister pulled out a wristwatch that looked like his Rolex Milgauss, prices of which can start in the high four figures. Both the finance ministry and Lindner’s spokesperson declined to comment and refused to answer why Lindner did not wear his watch during the broadcast, but then put it on at the end. French President Emmanuel Macron faced similar scrutiny last month, when he was spotted covertly taking off his watch in the middle of a TV appearance.A staffer from “maybritt illner“‘s editorial office told POLITI...

US pledges to keep pumping natural gas to Europe BRUSSELS — The United States promised Tuesday to keep sending large supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to EU ports this year as the Continent aims to continue weaning itself off Russian energy supplies. “Over the past year, the United States and Europe have thrown our energy security cooperation into even higher gear,” said U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in the EU capital for a summit with his EU counterpart Josep Borrell. The bloc last year imported 56 billion cubic meters (bcm) of U.S. LNG, more than double the previous year’s level. The U.S. pledged that it will send “at least 50 bcm” to Europe this year.American LNG was crucial in staving off a winter energy emergency as Russia throttled its natural gas deliveries. Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia accounted for over 40 percent of the EU’s gas demand, but that’s now fallen to about 12 percent. The EU has seen gas prices steadily drop thanks to increa...
